Most meetings last from 60 – 90 minutes. During this time:
A leader and others will read some general Nar-Anon approved literature,
Everyone will introduce themselves – first name only,
The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions will be read
Donations will be collected
Announcements concerning the group as a whole will be made
A general topic will be decided and members will share their experience, strength and hope
The Serenity Prayer opens and closes our meeting.
Some general comments about our meetings:
Many have stated that they gain the most knowledge by listening to others share their experience, strength and hope. Many of us have utilized a saying – “Take what you want and leave the rest”.
Our experiences are shared so that we might better understand this program and ourselves, and to give encouragement and help to the new member.
First time attendees often share what led them to the group. If you are not comfortable with sharing, you are welcome to simply listen.
If you have questions, you should wait until after the meeting to discuss with one or more of the members. Crosstalk during the meeting is discouraged.
We use Nar-Anon approved literature. At your first meeting you are given a small packet of information. Please bring the small blue Nar-Anon booklet each time we meet. The Nar-Anon “SESH” book is a book of daily readings. It can be purchased at any meeting.
A donation basket is passed at each meeting.
Meetings are focused on us, not the addict.
Our program is not a religious one, but a spiritual way of life.
We will respect your anonymity and request the same from all who attend.
Some groups will have other types of meeting. Some examples:
Beginner Meeting – A meeting that is geared more towards the Newcomer.
Speaker Meetings – A Speaker(s) will share their individual experiences in more detail.
Topic Meeting – Reading from SESH and sharing of topic and possibly open sharing after Topic.
Step Meetings – A more detailed study of the Twelve Steps then sharing on the step of the month, then possibly open sharing afterwards.
Business Meeting – A meeting where the Group’s business matters are discussed.
Group Conscience Meeting – An introspective look at the programs the Group is undertaking.
